These brush cleaner CD's do work, believe it or not.Perhaps not quite the same as having your system professionally serviced, but why waste more money than you may have to.This is a worthy investment to look into first - because these do work most of the time (and it's always a good idea to have one for continued preventative maintenance anyway). If you're getting play errors or severe skipping of your CD's, you might be amazed at how much one of these can help.

But here's a few tips for those of you making audio CD's on their home computers and having trouble playing them on some machines... It may not be a defective or dirty player at all.

First, it may be best to turn off any other programs you may have running in the background. This will give your CD burner full resources to do its burning job. Also, make sure your screensaver is turned off.If it starts up in the middle of a job, the laser burn may be interrupted and cause errors. So shut down all other programs and the screensaver too.

Second, it may do you well to defrag your hard drive before starting a burn.If you have a pretty fast PC, this may not be a big problem, but it may adversely affect the read data process if your computer has to search all over the hard drive to find pieces of the media files before burning them on the disk.I personally have an auto defrag program installed on my computer that runs constantly keeping my system running at its optimum.

Third, I recommend NOT copying CD's "on the fly" (in other words, directly from disk to disk).Copy the audio files to your hard drive first. Most CD burning software have a "create image" option - use that and then burn the image to a blank CD.If your using Nero, just turn off the "on the fly" option and the music files will copy to the hard disk first and then to the CD automatically.By-the-way, you may want to read my review on Amazon about Nero.It is, in my opinion, the best burning software available!Since I started using Nero, I do not know the meaning of the word "coaster" or "frisbee."

Fourth, ALWAYS burn CD's in DAO mode (Disc At Once). This will insure there is no gap between songs(TAO - Track At Once - usually leaves a 2 second gap between songs and causes the laser to have to stop burning momentarily between songs), but more importantly, using DAO will insure that the laser continues to burn constantly throughout the whole CD copying process.

Finally, and most importantly (in my opinion), make sure you don't burn CD's at anything faster than 12x!In fact, if you're playing CD's on an older system, burn the CD at 8x or even slower. If you still have trouble, take the speed all the way down to 1 or 2x.It can make a big difference.Yes, I know it means you won't be using the full potential of your zippy 52x burner, but you just have to figure out what is more important - fast burning or being able to actually listen to what your burning?

Most newer CD players have very little or no problem at all playing CD's burned on a computer at the highest speed; however, this is not often the case with much older units. As a general rule it is always better to burn audio disks slower.

You may also want to make sure you're using Audio CD certified media. That may help a little bit too.The brand of media may be a factor also.Sometimes the cheaper CD's may have a higher failure rate.I've heard this from some people.Personally, I have not had too much trouble with cheaper CD's...Usually, if the steps I have already mentioned are followed, cheap media will work fine. That has been my experience anyway. But different burners may be a factor as well and you may want to try some different brands of media until you find one that seems to work best for you.Using quality name brand media is probably a safe bet and may be your best course of action.

Good luck! :)

Scosche FM-MOD02 FM Modulator for iPod, Satellite Radio or Portable Music Player Review

Scosche FM-MOD02 FM Modulator for iPod, Satellite Radio or Portable Music Player
Average Reviews:

This, I believe, is absolutely the best way to play your Ipod or MP3 player through your factory radio.I have tried using a wireless FM transmitter and a cassette adapter and neither one of those worked well. With the wireless FM transmitter, it was difficult to find an open station to operate it static free while the cassette adapter deteriorated the sound quality so much it seems that everything is muffled. This wired FM Modulator works great. No loss of sound quality while maintaining static free operation. The downside of this kit is the relatively difficult installation process. If you have had experience of replacing a radio in your car, then this should be a piece of cake otherwise it may be best to have it installed by a pro.Over the years I have installed about a dozen or so car radios and this one still took me about 2 hours to install as I literally have to remove the factory radio to access the antenna connector. Finding a switched battery positive lead and ground is probably the next difficult part.Once those are accessed, the rest is fairly easy. The good thing is, after you get it working, its all worth it as this thing works flawlessly. One more thing, this unit uses the old style antenna connectors.Since most new cars now use a locking proprietary connector you will most likely need a set of antenna adapters to complete the installation.

UPDATE: After using this product for a few months, I noticed a slight and constant hum when the volume is turned down. This is only noticeable when the vehicle is idling or moving at a very low speed.Once you get going, most of the other noises in the car drowns out this hum.Just wanted to point this out to make sure I did not mislead any one.I would not change my rating because of this issue as it still performs to its intended purpose.

Boss Audio BASS600 8-Inch Low-Profile Amplified Subwoofer (Single) Review

Boss Audio BASS600 8 inch Low-Profile Amplified Subwoofer
Average Reviews:

A couple years ago I put an Alpine 9845 and a set of 4, 6.5 inch, Boston Acoustics speakers in my Dodge Dakota. It is a regular cab, small pickup truck so there isn't much room to improve the sound system. The system I installed sounded pretty good but lacked low end. At the time, there were no good sub woofer solutions that would fit in the cab and allow the seats to adjust to a comfortable position.

I found this unit on while looking to see if anything new was available and small enough. This and the Kenwood unit seemed like they would fit but this one is smaller with a larger driver. The very small housing will rob a lot of the bass volume produced by the 8" driver but an 8" will always produce a deeper bass than the 6.5" found in the Kenwood. The install was easy and typical. Run the power, ground, remote on signal and a pair of RCA's to the amp/sub combo. There are a good selection of controls on the unit to tailor the sound to your system. The remote gain is not needed unless you need it. My head unit has an adjustable output for sub signal so I tossed it out. A little bit of adjustment and I had it balanced nicely with the 6.5's.

It has a little more power than I needed but not much. I wasn't looking for mind numbing bass. I listen to rock mainly and wanted something that would fill out the bottom end. It does add a nice kick and rumble you can feel. With the 45 watts x 4 channel output of the head unit, it works quite well with a little power to spare. It is a good unit if you are looking to balance the sound in the small cab of a Dodge Dakota. The sub/amp combo it is so small I could fit two more behind the seats. I only gave it 4 stars because the stated 600 Watts is a little deceptive if you don't know what you are buying.

Stereo Install Dash Kit Toyota Camry 92 93 94 95 96 97 (car radio wiring installation parts) Review

Stereo Install Dash Kit Toyota Camry 92 93 94 95 96 97

I bought this harness for a 1997 Camry (5th gen), but ended up not using it at all. Turns out the 5th generation Camry has a dash part that already fits snugly around modern radios. Behind that dash part, there is already a bracket for mounting the radio. That renders this dash kit totally useless if you are trying to install a modern radio. What most cars will probably only need is a "pocket". I suggest opening the dash first to see what you need and checking out the following if you have a Camry like mine:
[...]

Pros:
- this kit will allow you to mount really old radios that have different form factors than todays radios.
- this kit will probably work with 4th generation Camry

Cons:
- quality of the kit is poor
- manual is poor and wrong for the 5th generation Camry '97
- faceplate that will slide over radio is wrong size and does not fit over modern radios

I've used other brands before and have gotten distortion even when running them away from power wires but this particular setup I had in my G35 I had to run them parallel to power cables and there was no distortion or whining at all.

InstallerNet Car Stereo Deluxe eInstallCard (Delivered via Email) Review

InstallerNet Car Stereo Deluxe eInstallCard

The InstallCard I purchased purported to be all that was needed for a basic installation of a car stereo. When I ordered the E-card, Amazon.com charged me both tax AND shipping - on a Emailed "card".The installer charged me the difference between his standard installation (of $75.00) and what the E-Card was giving him in fees ($60.00).It would have been cheaper in my case to have just bought the installation direct from the installer and not bothered with the E-Card.For a $75.00 installation I would up paying over $100 when all was said and done.Use CAUTION and check around before you order this - iyt's cheaper than (say) a BestBuy installation, but the independant installers they use may be cheaper ontheir own.

What's Included with This Installation Package?

With this InstallCard, a professional installer will remove your factory car stereo radio and install your aftermarket cassette or in-dash CD player. This InstallCard includes a vehicle specific radio mounting bracket and/or wiring harness. Some vehicles require special materials that may not be included.
Visit www.InstallCard.com for more information.

Notes:

(situations where extra charges may apply at time of installation)

If the in-dash stereo has a satellite antenna that has to be mounted on the exterior of the vehicle, installation may require additional charges for parts and labor.

Onstar and some other factory security systems play through the factory radio, and the installation of an after factory stereo may require replacement modules.

If the factory wires or dashboard has been cut or damaged due to a previous unprofessional installation or theft, installation may require additional parts and labor.

Some vehicles will require an additional amplifier bypass harness to rewire a factory amplifier, along with additional labor--for example, vehicles that have factory Bose, Infinity or other premium sound systems.

If there is no installation kit available for your dash, the installer may have to fabricate a custom-mounting bracket.

To make any factory steering wheel controls work with an after factory radio will require additional parts and labor.

Some vehicles may require optional mounting brackets or additional labor due to the complexity of the existing radio removal. For example, some cars require the disassembly of a large portion of the dashboard just to remove the radio.

European cars (BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc.) and some exotic vehicles may need additional labor due to the complexity of their wiring.
